I have worked for three investment management firms over the course of my +30-year career. Incredible experiences all. What I relish about each is that—at the heart of everything—they were entrepreneurial endeavors. The founders had a clear purpose and vision for how to add value to their clients.
The first investment manager I worked for was a $9B AUM boutique growth manager when I joined and eventually grew to $300B+. Over the course of 15 years, I developed and implemented branding, communications, and product strategies for a globally resourced firm.
My second endeavor was with a mid-sized manager composed of multiple investment boutiques. As CMO, I worked hand-in-hand with the firm's investment principals to shape their stories, investment processes, and product lines. The effort created differentiated offerings that competed well against an extremely crowded and competitive landscape. We won new business based on the merits of clarified investment processes and by seeking alignment with key audiences.
My third endeavor was more of a pure startup. There was something very exciting about the relative freedom to experiment and innovate. We built everything organically and found success in the marketplace by smartly investing where it mattered most and consistently punching above our weight with high-quality output. Our target audiences always believed that we were bigger than we were and opened the door to allow us to tell our distinctive story. After a few years of building on the vision, we found marketplace success, sold the firm and grew AUM to more than $3.5B.
I formed Honeycomb Partners in 2019 to continue my entrepreneurial journey. Honeycomb partners closely with a small handful of investment firms in the US and around the world, providing the opportunity for focus, immersion, and total alignment. Engagements range from full-scope brand, product, and distribution strategies to more focused product messaging and thought leadership programs. In all cases, interconnected strategies remain at the heart of the work.
